The idea came to life in July of 2009 on a train ride through India. Florion, a cuisine enthusiast, has always wanted to open his own restaurant, and so he started thinking about theme, location, decor and of course payment system. As a computer science major and iPhone savvy, he thinks up a solution that combines a Mac behind the counter and an iPhone in the waitstaff's pocket. The iPad is announced in 2010 and so in 2012 Nicolas and Florion, former university classmates, decide to partner up and set to work on a prototype. Two of their friends, Thomas and Xavier, join the team three months in, bringing their web design experience and unparalleled savoir-faire.
Meeting up with café and restaurant managers, cooks, and waiters has allowed us to perfect our solution to best fit their needs. Strong of an 8-month test run in a Paris café-restaurant, Popina was finally ready for launch in October of 2013.
